We call it Forest Music, some of these songs, because we feel connected to the very sound of that. Musical genres blend and leap and jump and share, we cannot adhere to one of we tried, yet we are always asked what type of music do we play? At one concert in 2019, we played a set list of our melodically softer and quieter songs, and a stranger in the audience approached us afterward and said “It sounds like Forest Music,” and we were all excited smiles.
If something as revered by us as a forest could produce something as revered by us as music, then to even capture a hint of that in the imagination fills us with humble glee.
We are currently recording “Ophelia’s Song, “”From the Blue Green Sea,” “Followcat,” and “Quiet Solitude. These are songs that tell some of those tales.
These days are difficult, and there is so much to surmount. This song is for anyone feeling a little overwhelmed right now.
Episode 2 of Five Questions with The Repressions is on Youtube now! Sage is a wonderful artist and illustrator ~ hear her answers to our silly questions and see a few of her paintings at the end of the video.
Sage Cotignola is an artist that The Repressions greatly admire, who creates lush storytelling and emotionally evocative work in a signature style. The Repressions were so glad to attend her exhibition at Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn in February 2020 and get the chance for an interview. A few paintings are shown at the end of this video, but do visit her website for the full gallery~ it is a visual feast! Find and follow her!

Sage usually paints in gouache on watercolor paper or on wood. She revels in the over-the-top and the unusual. She’s inspired by mythology, folktales, Medieval painting, Japanese woodblock prints, and the more surprising aspects of everyday life.
Thanks to Zack Dash for filming!
So much to do inside but the timing is not always right…
This Friday is going to be very special… The Dolphin Bookshop has a magic that surrounds you before you realize it. The Repressions will play in the stage/ seating/cafe area, with a beautiful bookshop to the right, more books and toys to the left, original art and color all around… It is not just “one” kind of place, and therefore inspiring and imperceptibly comfortable. No cover charge and all ages are welcome… The music begins at 7pm!
If we start planning now, we could probably do these costumes for next Halloween. For now, here’s a dream comic…
Enjoy these crayon colorful twenty-six seconds…
