Female authors have always struggled to be taken objectively, for this reason and others far more oppressive in the past they have used pen names, often male. Still today many use pen names or initials in the hopes of being judged fairly. It is a funny thing, since reading is one of the best things that we can do to learn critical thinking, compassion, empathy and imagination. Why should marketing and sexism detract from precious books and thought?
Here is to the excellent authors mentioned, and those that could not fit in the song, and to books themselves, our dearest friends, the books!

Oh goodness! The Repressions are featured in the “best desks” video for the NPR contest! While the tour is not happening this year of course, this little bit of light is very welcome. It’s a very nice video, lots of creativity on display and a lovely way to showcase and support independent artists, on the NPR YouTube channel. Patrick Stevens is a singer-songwriter and musician in Astoria NYC. Patrick has a very genuine quality, in his person and his music. He is affable and makes everyone in the room feel welcome. His singing voice can reach unique gravelly heights! The Repressions were honored and thrilled when he covered their song “We Are The Strange Ones” (find that video here on this channel) and so glad to interview him backstage at his show in February 2020.
